The platform for mainstream performance art is tv, most recently staring not-so-new artist Sarah Palin and her newest installment, first of a series, titled Endorsement for Donald J. Trump. This curtain call of a performance happened on January 19th in Iowa where she effectively delivered a message to her fellow artists: she cannot be forgotten. We were reminded that a legend like her has great impact on the lives she touches. Even though it has been awhile since Sarah Palin put on a show, her expertise lies in timing. For this, the art world has missed you Sarah Palin, we have missed you.
First off during this performance she kept her energy up the whole time pairing dialogue with slang. Repetition was a key to her success, it kept the audience engaged. When she attempted to stray to substance silence would overwhelm the room. However, she brought back the excitement by using vague slogans to insert ideas into the mass before her. This was a slick compromise which is owed to her calculated speaking methods; using the words people need to hear to know her values are where they should be. Her subtextual goals to excite, motivate, and to never stress the bigotry of her message won over the attendees.
The shock of her return is something to be noted, for it could be said this election process was missing the void only a Palin-less voice could create. Multiple times she reassured the confirmation of voters asking “are you ready” for a man to bring back the traidition of exclusion? Are you ready for the Right issues to be talked about, not the left? Her goal of uplifting the new hope that is our Anti-Savior onto the cross of the fallen was almost achieved despite his loss there in Iowa. Perhaps on her next stops she will be more successful with the locals.
This artwork was the first of many to come. Be sure to try and catch one of her performances live in the upcoming weeks all over South Carolina where she will be appearing on behalf of her newest muse, Donald J Trump.
We are suspiscious though, due to her non-rag on Rand Paul during this performance, it has us asking, will there be another series to look forward to? Stay tuned folks.
